John Rushworth's Wide-screen Films

The late John Rushworth was famous for his wide-screen films, particularly those featuring the Sealed Knot and other historical military re-enactment groups.

These films are for several other projects. They were all shot on Standard-8, and were projected using a Eumig P8 and Kowa wide-screen converter lens. We are able to offer some of his original camera films, still on their Kodak spools as returned from processing. Many of these films appear to contain trial shots, test shots, etc. and some reels are not of complete 50 foot length.

The numbers are those we have allocated, to help us with sorting out the films.

BARON VON RICHTHOFEN - THE RED BARON

32 - title reel, includes Richthofen and Red Baron (in German). Several other titles etc. on other reels.

38, 54 - 84 incl., 86 - 91 incl., 93 - 139 incl., 143 - 180

124 50 ft. reels including titles (a variety of titles, not just The Red Baron). The "rushes" for the film include planes, radio controlled planes and model planes, in a variety of situations on the ground and in the air. There are also sequences with actors in the appropriate costume for the period, both English and German uniforms. Some sequences purport to show a dead pilot - these may be distressing for some people. Although special effects are done simply (e.g. a hand holds a model plane by the wing-tip and moves it in front of the camera) they are executed very well and the lighting is usually very good. Some shots, including some taken in a museum, are underexposed. Not all of the 50 ft. reels are the full 50 ft. There are a few other shots on some of the films e.g. of snow scenes, blossom etc. Very repetitive.

Total of 124 50 foot reels, not all full. (21591) £40.
