The American Library of Congress has online film
clips from the very early days of film. Edison
made films from the late nineteenth century up until 1918 and the
searchable online collection of Edison films contains clips from as
early as 1891.Film clips may be accessed un chronological order or
by subject and there is a wide variety of subjects. Clips include
the real Annie Oakley, a "Trapeze Disrobing Act", a clip of the Mike
Leonard-Jack Cushing boxing match and President McKinley taking the
Oath of Office in March 1901. There are also over 80 sound recordings
available.
Just for fun, the Movie
Cliche List - although if you are an aspiring film-maker, read
these so that you can do it differently.

Images and Photography
A
Timeline of the Daguerreian
Era shows the major events in
the history of photography together with outside events
(with a US slant) from 1839 to 1860, ending with the
election of Lincoln as President of the US. This is part
of the American Library of Congress "Daguerreotype
Portraits and Views" which
contains more than 650 images searchable by keyword or
subject browse and which includes a portrait of
Lincoln.
The Getty Museum site includes a collection of photographs.ranging
from early salt prints by Fox-Talbot to Warhol Polaroids. Well worth
a look.
